Default hello from my unimog and i

picked this up on a whim a couple of weeks ago. hadn't done RC since i was a kid. awesome little weekend project, and now time for upgrades, slowly but surely (don't call me shirley).
got a spektrum dx5e so i have three more channels to play around with.
enough ramble, everyone likes pictures...

I just got a cc01 myself and scored a nikki fj cruiser body for it. I havent even ran my cc01 yet (been building my 2.2 jk scaler) but they look like a blast. You plan on running different tires?

yeah i'm going to swap out the tires for something softer, and probably pick up a set of the raw steel beadlocks, more for the look than the function.

have the wiring for the 5th channel to turn the lights on and off on it's way now.

anyone know what other bodies will work on this 9.5" wheelbase?

Looks Good! I like the color choice. Do you plan on doing anything with the back? I added Canvas top to mine.

i'm definitely going to do a canopy on the back, just need a few materials and some time.

i love the look of yours. the detail is just stellar. what rims do you have on there? stock tires or something aftermarket?

RC4WD Steel OEM beadlocks and yes they are true 3 piece beadlocks with RC4WD Dirt Grabbers.

Thanks!

How are the tires for softness?
i'm finding the stock tires are very stiff. i notice on yours there is a bit of sag to the tires which is what i would prefer.

Also, the wrangler and the unimog have the same wheelbase length? so if i pick up a tamiya white wrangler body and all the fixin's i'll be able to mount it up just fine (different posts though)?

Default upgrades on your MOG

I have been thinking about getting a Mog to keep my FJ40 company. i just missed a nice one on ebay last week.

I will be following your thread to see what upgrades/changes you do.

Thanks,
Sno Dawg

Sno Dawg, ironic you'd reply considering your name and my snow pics i just took.
the 'mog is downstairs drying out infront of the space heater currently... things got a bit messy out there today.

issue with design: the rear LEDs get caught on the chassis when i put the body on. have had to resolder all of the connections already, and now the light mounts are unpeeling from the body. going to have to notch out the chassis to make room so i don't keep ripping the rear lights off.

GUMPSTER1980: did you put some washers in when you installed the RC4WD OEM steel wheels? i just put mine on and am finding a bit of play. as if the nut has reached the end of the threads on the axle.

Yep, same thing happened with mine. I also relieved the chassis to clear the housings.

I was busy just getting the pics up yesterday, here's the list of modifications as they stand...

  • RC4WD winch
  • RC4WD OEM steel wheels with Dirt Grabber tires
  • homemade steering arms (note, I did have the GPM steering unit but it was terrible. I removed it and went back to stock, changing the steering arms, and still need to swap the throw arm up top)
  • 75T motor
  • Traxxas XL5 ESC
  • 2S Lipo battery
  • Graupner MC12 transmitter
As for future plans, i'm really not sure. I have another few channels in my transmitter and was thinking of doing a tow truck arm and servo winch. Still undecided. Anyone have any comments or suggestions, feel free...
