balln 09-10-2011 09:29 PM

Big thanks goes out to Chino63 (Dean) who waited on me patiently to scrape up the coin to get this little rig. He is the mad man behind the original build and its susp.
Original build
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...=power+portals

I always loved these little Tamiya cco1 rigs and it was my first 4x4 truck but at the time i didnt know jack crap about crawling. But now with a couple of builds under my belt its time for another one. This little rig crawls unbelievablely well. As soon as i got it i had to run her to see what she could do on my backyard course. It went up all the normal lines with ease and then some!!!!! It out crawls anything i have driven so far. Ok well onto the pics

My first outing

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch310.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch311.jpg

First thing i did was get rid of those big ole ugly stock shocks and swapped them out for some threaded mrc shocks. They have longer stroke and comp more.

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch325.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch314.jpg

The hardest thing for me on a build is to mount the body strong with out body posts and clips going through the body. So i fabbed up some mounts and bead blasted them at work along with the skids that needed to be freshened up a bit.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...%20H3/rch3.jpg

Under the bottom skid plate
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch322.jpg

I received my body and had to add some black paint to help with the scale look while mounted to the chassie.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch320.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch319.jpg

All fresh with new paint
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch328.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch327.jpg

I added some RC4wd pro 10 wheels and they have a nice offset and makes it even wider then what she was but still has a nice stance. And after all bolted up the tires hold air and its pretty fun to drive with them like that.

You will be very pleased with this rig. Chino brought that rig to one of our scaler comps last season and whipped us all with it. I was amazed with the workmanship and the lines it was pulling off. You got your self a winner! If it were me i would keep it class one spec and win every comp you enter"thumbsup"

Awesome makeover! Looks sick withthe H2 body on it. "thumbsup"

I might build another one someday but until then, I'll be watching this. Better keep up tp dateon the pics! :ror:

I ended up putting new springs on the front mrc shocks that i found at my local ACE hardware store they seem to do the trick. They are alittle stiff but i will give them time to break in. I also ordered up some parts to freshin up the rear link setup. When crawling it sounds like a old farm truck squeaking down the road. Also took out the 75T motor and put in a 45T integy till i find a brushless setup.

heinie_21 09-13-2011 11:43 AM

i always wanted one of those cc-01's back in the day. they're probably pretty cheap now. i always wanted the pajero

I feel sorry for the poor bastards that crawl with you!:ror:

balln 09-20-2011 12:10 PM

Update time:mrgreen:

The old mrc springs up front where replaced with some ace hardware springs and then painted to match. stock one in middle
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch367.jpg

I also took out the winch direction tube out and cleaned it up and put some fresh paint. I also had to extend it for the new body.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch358.jpg

The only thing that bothered me on this rig was the rear portals. They didnt match being green so i tore down the rear axle and freshened it up with fresh paint and greace.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch370.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch376.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch362.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch365.jpg

Then it was time to replace those squeaky rod ends with some mini heims from RC4wd.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch373.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch374.jpg

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch335.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch385.jpg

With the new wheels you cant let it sit on the tires for too long becuase they get flat spots with them holding air. So i made a stand at work on my dinner break.

I was in front of the pack leading the trails and we came up to a pretty steep incline. It took me a couple trys to get my wheels positioned in the right place but it went 3 wheeling all the way up. Then behind me was a wraith with rear steer and all the goodies. And the owner DOES know how to drive!!!!! But for some reason the wraith wouldnt lock up and go. The pic is at a bad angle so it doesnt look that bad but the first part of the incline is pretty nasty with a under ledge.

Never thought i would see a CCo1 winch a wraith

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch355.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0H3/rch356.jpg

I really learned some new driving skills with this little rig!!!! Im so use to my solid axles up front with a 4-link to relax down when its 3 wheeling. This rig doesnt do that but you find the right line it will crawl anywhere:shock:

Sorry for the lack of updates. There really isnt any as of now. I managed to get some of the interior in. Its going to be hard to try and get the seats mounted up. I may have to chop them really small and make a panal to mount them too. Well this is the way it sits now.

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...3/DSCF2163.jpg

I went to a comp the other weekend and i didnt make it 5 yards as soon as i got there and i took a little roll and i broke the axle shaft coming out of the portal. Thanks to Dean i have some sitting here but i have to get the time to install them. I have some other goodies coiming so once they get here ill try and put up some updates. I have started on my 1/1 dream truck i have been wanting to build it for 7yrs now. And me and my girlfriend are about to have our first little one here in a couple of weeks so i wont have that much time for the hummer with my little girl and my 1/1 truck.

Thanks Keith.

The hummer is tore down right now I managed to get more lift out of the front end. Why I don't really know. Lol but I bought some gpm arms for it and the uppers suck. They fell apart on me twice so out they went. Besides the stock ones have way more travel. I found a way to get even more travel out of the front end but while its apart I'm going to put a new tub on her and do a full tear down and clean and paint the susp so it all matchs then throw some new paint on the body.

Updates coming "thumbsup"

Can't wait to see it! The increase in lift might reduce the max steering angle and probably wear the CV's faster. I left it alone for reliability good luck with it though. "thumbsup"

BTW, I might build another one soon. :ror:

Yeah I didn't think about the cv's lol and so far what I did I had to shim the steering and blend alittle more on the skid plate. I plan on making a whole new metal lower skid and lower ARM mounts when we slow down at work. And Hell yeah on building another one. I doubt ill go back to a solid axle rig I love these cc-01 to damn much.
