Default CC01 - FJ40/Pajero

Saw my mates having fun with their scale fourbies and had to have one!

Built this little weapon over the last few weeks in my spare time with a few mods to start with.

FJ40 CC01 pimping pearl white paintjob
Front cage/bumper half chopped
Front inner guards chopped
55t brushed motor with fan cooled heatsink
Traxxas 2075 9kg servo
90mm Proline rear shocks
Proline beadlock rims with weights & Hot Bodies Rover HB67913 tyres

Plans are to upgrade the steering for better response & more lock, upgrade front shocks and probably a 2:1 reduction gearset for the motor to boost the torque up a bit.

I've got a factory painted SWB Pajero shell coming from Japan at the moment which will be my show pony/trail cruiser. The FJ40 shell will be my rock crawling pig shell.

I got into RC cars originally through RC drifting and still have a TA05. Have already started building a car trailer for this thing to haul my drift car Will be 500mm long x 200mm wide hopefully with dual axles and leaf springs, low enough for me to back the drift car off and slide away!

Last night made drop shackles for the rear struts and ****ed off the factory 'servo saver' horn thing and made a random normal horn suit, killed a bit of the slop in the steering for now.

I've only cut the main extrusion pieces so far, they are sitting on my desk at work. Still need to source leaf springs/axles and then I will start assembling

Hey what's wrong with my tyres? Bigger = lots of chopping of chassis/shells which I don't want to do yet.

Nothing wrong with small rubbers... if that's what fits your "truck" best

It's just that most ladies prefer the larger rubbers, preferably ribbed for their pleasure.

Yep seen those already dude. Because of the length of my trailer I want to run a tandem/dual axle setup, so I need some longer leafs with mounts for 2 axles

Ohhhh, you want both axles on a single leaf spring. That's pretty different even for the RC world I think. Even the 6x6 and 8x8 trucks have each axle 'live' and on it's own set of shocks.

Yep. I'm thinking I may have to make the leaf spring myself. I saw someones thread where they used a metal band out of something wound, flattened it out and added end hoops and holes etc.

Stock steering in these things is rubbish, my servo is too strong and rips balljoints out of the plastic arms. GPM steering kit I have doesn't even slot straight in. Will be converting to front mounted servo this week.

Several things happened yesterday;

Got my factory painted metaltop Pajero. Looks MINT, even came with lighting unit and LEDs in the headlights/fog lights. Going to drill holes sometime this week so I can use the factory body posts.

Finished my front servo/steering conversion. Killed my traxxas servo in doing this, the plastic gears didn't like being locked up while I adjusted end points. Using a Savox metal gear servo in the meantime till I find a Hitec.

Pics will come soon

Shell will obviously look better when drilled, lower and non-monster-truckish :P

Damn, you got that front steering mod sorted out pretty quick. I'm the only one with semi-stock steering left, but I like my setup. Pajero shell looks ****ing awesome too, don't trash it!

It's not much work to convert to front servo, just a bit tricky to find all the pieces you need. Rods/rod ends/ballcups etc. Piecing it together didn't take long at all. Killing a servo was a bit of a setback though.

Yes I don't think the Pajero will head out to North Lakes :P

He flipped the lower arms around to move the shock mount towards the rear and flipped the shock top mounts to suit. Like this:-

You need to upgrade shocks after doing this mod, stock shocks don't work well in the rear mounted position
