| My hashed up CC-01 Pajero experiment
Hey guys, I wanted to share with you my CC-01 that I have been playing with lately. I bought this from a co-worker in pretty rough shape, he had previously made some changes to it for bashing at speed and had been running a pretty hot mod motor in it. The rear chassis had been cut open to allow a Blackfoot shock tower to be installed and he was running some Associated gold body shocks with about the stiffest springs possible! I played with it a few times in the configuration I bought it in, and then decided that I wanted to re-work the steering because of how much slop it had it in. So I modified the steering to place the servo up front and built steering linkages, which also required me to cut off the front brick, so I built a skid plate at the same time and spaced out the front suspension. With the steering rods in place the Associated shocks didn't fit in the stock locations anymore, so I remounted them to the upper control arm and ran them through the aluminum plate I used to hold the servo. I started playing around with the rear suspension, I completely cut off the rear chassis, and tried to build a cantilever suspension. It worked ok, but my fabrication skills and tools leave something to be desired. haha I tried remounting the cantilever pivot points for more stability It worked ok at that point, but there was so much friction between all the pivot points that it would bind up once it got gritty. So back to the drawing board. I was trying to stick with what I had, without buying new parts as this is a cheap rc for me. So I re-worked the rear suspension again, this time taking the cantilever out and just laying the shocks down at an extreme angle allowing the suspension to travel the full movement available from the links without reaching the shock travel limits. I also removed the small 18th scale springs I had put on the rear shocks and placed some small springs from ACE hardware inside of the shock bodies, they are soft enough to compress under normal weight and allow from good compression and droop while flexing. I picked up a set of Axial Flat-irons and Axial beadlocks along the way. So I had to trim out the fender openings to clear them without raising the body up too high. I am pretty happy with how it turned out, everything works ok so far, I need to redo the steering as it has a bit of flexibility in it right now. But it crawls nicely and is a blast to drive. Not the prettiest belle at the ball but for a total investment of under $100 I am happy with it *edit* sorry for the sideways pictures, I can't figure out why they are doing that, my photobucket shows them normally |

Cool rig mate, and that cantilever setup that it came with is pretty unique. I'm liking that Pajero shell too, very Dakar Rally. Also, those tyres are Proline Flat Irons.

Thanks! If only the cantilever worked haha. Thanks for the heads up on the tires, I thought they were Axial brand tires. |

De-stickered and fixed a bunch of cracks in the body. Decided to try a different color too. Not sure what I think of the color haha. |

Not sure on that colour either, can you get some day time outside shots? Looks better than before anyway, maybe buy a sticker sheet so you can do the grills, lights, etc.

I was actually thinking of trying to hand paint the little items like grill and handles with some model paints. Trying to stay as cheap as possible! The color looks a bit more green in person than in the pics, hopefully in the light it will be better.

Yeh I thought it would look greener in real life. Good idea on handpainting too, those little pots of paint are so cheap or even lying around from previous projects. I know I've got about 5 pots sitting around.

Got my electronics mounted into a Radio Shack project box And then took it out and made some tracks on the snow in my yard! |

Snow looks like fun, but does it clog the front suspension much? In that last pic I can see all that snow packed up around the control arms and the steering arm also.

It didn't seem to effect it much. I imagine that if it was super cold or really really deep snow it might, this stuff was just about up to the bottom of the chassis so only a little was getting into the arms and steering.

Loving this project! While mine isn't nearly as radical, it reminds me that its been modified so heavily, I can't even remember exactly how much I've modified. Saw a stock tub the other day and it took a minute to figure out what it was.
