| Bushings vs bearings
Im in the process of building a trail rig for wet areas and a friend of mine brought it to my attention that i should use bushings instead of bearings due to the water/rust/grit that can eat up bearings. Anyone have experience on this? It sounds like a good idea but a may still put them in the inner areas of the gearbox.

I would say it depends on your use, if you are doing deep mud or alot of water then use the bushings anywhere the mud can enter. If you are doing just the ocasional water crossing or just a muddy trail without real deep mud, sealed bearings are fine.

You can always pack bearings with marine grease. Keeps them safe for a year of hard use. Loads of YouTube videos on the subject.

I have used Avid sealed rubber bearings in all my builds and have never had water/mud get past the bearings. One of my rigs is practically a submarine and when I went to replace the bearings after 6 months I found I didn't have to as nothing got past the outer bearings and the outers were still spinning very nicely.

The problem with bushings is what gets worn when crap gets in. A bushing will allow the parts normally protected by a bearing to wear. I'd rather replace my buck-a-piece bearings than my axles and gears.

Not sure aboot where in Canada, but Avid RC does International shipping. I like his stuff. And he wins races. Got their bearings in almost everything I have at this point. Bushings made sense to me for a while until I was replacing axles because of wobbles because of them wearing out and not the bushing. TLT scaler days. |

Nope sorry. You can maybe look at the back of the manual and get all the number or try Tamiya.com or another bearing supplier and copy the numbers... But I went to look for the usual Tamiya bearing size and this popped up. It's just that easy.™ |

Avid makes good stuff. $1 each and they hold up well. I use them in my race vehicles. You can also source cheap bearing kits off eBay. I think mine were $10 shipped. For a CC01, they do well.

i have the part numbers somewhere for the traxxas equivalent. i got traxxas because my local hobby store stocked it. Thats all they stock too unfortunately lol. damn short course... Edit* traxxas #5116 (how ever many 5x11) traxxas #5117 (2) i left bushings in the axle because that is the most likley place to get dirt and i dont want bearing balls floating around the metal gears. I just ordered rubber sealed bearings when I got my kit. I don't even use traxxas bearings for my slash... they cost $5 a pair.
