| Anyone who thinks the Losi is fragile.....think again
I have a Losi with 8oz weight in the front, upgraded steering knuckles, and everything else in the drivetrain is stock. I have a JR 8711HV MEGA servo (BEC w/7 volts), and have had it in my Losi for about two weeks now. It's the best servo I've ever used by far, however it only made it two weeks. It sounds like a grenade went off inside it...I do drive it tough, but I would think something in the crawler would break before this servo. I've heard countless times of people snapping axles, driveshaft pins, VCD pins, stripping spur gears (oh I guess I did destroy one of those...but I digress....), have yet to bust a V2 axle **knocks on wood** Has anyone broken their servos? Has anyone broken everything in their Losi steering system but the servo is still kickin? Is there any sort of manufacturers warranty for the JR? Or are there gear kits you can buy to replace whatever is stripped inside? This $200 should have surpassed two weeks, but then again what is the average life expectancy on one of these bad boys? I am absolutely shocked that the badass servo grenaded and the Losi held in there like a champ. thanks, Beerman |

JR warranties their servos for 3 years with your original receipt. I have never had any problems with any of the 8711 I have. Remember these are crawlers not battering rams. |

should be under warranty. mine took about a month from the day I shipped it. you have to be patient with horizon. I have also cooked an airtronics 94780, and that took about 2 1/2 weeks to get back. let us know when you get it back on how long it took.

JRPSG8711HV is the part number for that gearset, $55!(EEK!) ... Doesn't look like anyone has them instock anywhere... Good luck, sorry to hear you broke your toy. |

Usually overheating is a result of this but you may wanna dial down your BEC. 7v is more that its rated for isn't it? I think they cap them at 6v. There is no give when you have all metal steering components so the only thing there is to let loose is the small gears of the servo.

It may still be the problem. Get kinda bound and rather than the motor not moving its using its supercharged kung fu strength and breakin stuff. Kinda like add power to tour cars engine, tranny becomws a weak link.

| yep as Beerman said it, there is one plastic gear right in the back. all the rest are gorilla strength steel... I would think the new plan would be: buy two or three of these plastic gears if you have to replace it once. then you're covered. |

of course.... maybe if Beerman didn't drive like a sissy girl with a sissy girl servo he wouldn't have this problem...... J/K guys don't flame me. He is my sissy girl roommate. Just talking $h!t I am very impressed with what his Losi can do. Hopefully we can get this servo fixed before our first comp (next sunday) |

do all the other high end servos have a plastic gear? Like hitec or airtronics. for that much money, you'd think they would all be metal. or is it set up to be the weak link?

Airtronics 361 and 94780 is/are all metal. And yeah, when you're pushing 423 ounces (Airtronics 780), other things can break inside the servo. I was out one dollar because of a breakage in the middle case. |
