Default Pinon Gear not included

Hello All,
I just recieved my LCC (first rock crawler) and electronics. I was surprised to find you do not get a pinon gear with the kit. I have searched/reviewed many posts about suggested pinon's but nothing really says what pitch it has to be (I'm assuming 48P). Sorry for the dumb question, if someone can give me a little insight it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

yep 48 pitch ranging from 12 to 17.I started running a brushed starter boz motor with a 12 tooth then changed to a brushless 18.5 with a novak crawler esc for a 2s lipo, but am going to go up to a 15 tooth for more wheel speed. There are plenty of threads in here about that subject.Enjoy your LCC,i know i do

Yes it's a 48p. As for the tooth count it just depends on your motor of choice. I ran a 35t warrior with a 15t, didn't have enough wheel speed, motor got hot, and run times sucked. If your gonna stay shafty, brushless is the way to go.

what happens if you try and use a pinion larger than 17? i have a 21.5t goat with a 2s battery. i initially bought a 13t pinion, but now i want more speed. the motor is in the shop currently, but i have bought a 20t pinion thinking this would be the solution, at least for now. will i be able to use it, or is it too big?

I run a 13t on my 21.5T and can see that a little more wheelspeed could be nice. I can still blip the throttle to pop the truck over obstacles so I haven't bothered to change it. I've seen rigs with so much WS that it gets them in trouble, once they overshoot, they are screwed!

I would only suggest about 14 or 15 to keep the motor running cool...20 sounds like it would heat it up. This is just a guess and an assumption from what I have read.

If you try it, let us know although I wouldn't want that much WS, just a tad more than the 13 gives. I would go 15t at most.

Oops...I am running 3S...maybe the 2S is much slower than mine so I guess I'm not comparing apples to apples?

yeah, a $3 pinion is easier to experiement with than a $30+ battery. 21.5 with a 13t pinion is just too slow with 2s

i run a 12t pinion with my 18.5t goat and its awsome (i run 8.4 volts) but it could use a touch more wheel speed from a 13t or more volts

A 15T would be pushing the limit. A 20T would just be way over the top. Unless your just driving it on a ice hockey rink.
