| Shafty or MOA Losi build?
Hey all, I bought a new Losi Comp and I need some help with my build. I'm not sure if I should stay with the shafty set up or go with the MOA. I have a SWX now and I'm thinking I may try the MOA with this build. I see some are having troubles with their Losi comp with the MOA. I don't want to buy a MOA kit if it's just going to be a headache. If I do want to go with the MOA, no one has them in stock right now. TCS has had them on order for 3-4 weeks now. Here are the two set ups I'm thinking about. #1 Eritex Inc MOA Conversion HH TorqueMaster BR-XL 2 Integy motors (not sure which ones to get) CKRC HD cvd's Punk dig Hitec HS-7950TH 1 Castle BEC 4s lipo (If there is anything I need to add to make this set up work right let me know.) #2 Tekin RS 17.5 BL System or Novak Goat 3S 18.5 BL system. (Leaning towards the Tekin kit) Hitec HS-7950TH Hitec HS-225MG (dig) CKRC HD cvd's 2 Castle BEC (one for steering servo, one for the receiver) 3s lipo If there is a better build to go with or you have a part I should add to one of my lists, post it up. If I can't find a MOA kit it will be a shafty build and this thread will be pointless. Lol! Thank you for your time and any help you maybe! Mike Last edited by Mikeney; 12-26-2009 at 11:35 AM. |

I ran a shafty for a couple months, then switched over to a MOA after driving a friends around a little bit. It seems to fit my crawling style much better. I also have never had any issues with my kit. The gears are starting to wear after countless hours of crawling, but new pinion are a couple bucks. or you would upgrade to the BLC 48t kit for it.

Thanks! I'll add the BLC gears to my list of mod for the MOA. Which BLC gear are most running in the Losi?

The BLC regear allows you to run standard 48pitch pinion gears, and you can have your pick of teeth on the pinion gear. With the regular MOA kit you cant change ratio's. For the cost of a MOA set up Im not sure its worth it. Run it as a shafty, maybe later go MOA. The Losi has taken away the main issue of a shafty anyway. Torque twist.

I see, thanks for setting me straight on the gears guys. KBrog that's a good point.. I'm guessing the MOA just gets the weight lower to the ground? Is that the only benefit of it? |

Get V3 Losi CVD's instead of the CKRC ones. Also, only need one BEC with either kit, not 2 BEC's with the brushless system. I had brushless, went to MOA kit and now am going back to a brushless. Just did not like the rig as a MOA kit. |

On my SWX I have one 7.4v BEC running to my steering servo and one 6.0v BEC going to my receiver. I really like the power the steering servo has with 7.4v going to it. You think two BEC are over kill? I'm seeing a few guys going back to a stock after running the MOA kit. The brushless set up maybe the way for me to go for now. I really like the new Tekin RS 17.5 BL System but the Goat 3s system for $190 is hard to pass up. | |
