i would take a bet right now that your motor temps and your esc is quite HOT after a good 10-15 minute session. thats quite a bit of stress. 15 as said above is perfect match

I'm using a 16 tooth with Losi's 3S crawler battery and it works great. No heat issues even after hard bashing.

Im running a brushed 55 turn with a 2 cell lipo and a 12 tooth pinion. After 15 minutes of running today the motor temp was 180 and it started to loose power and wouldnt hardly climb. Is this because of the high temp and am i running the proper pinion?

I was running a 13 on my goat 3s 21.5T on a 3s lipo and it got pretty hot... i changed pinions till I found one I like. 16 tooth works best for me and I can run it at my LHS for 24 minutes with the 1500mAh battery and it never gets more than warm. i can put in a second pack and go another 20 min or so and hever have a problem. so i guess there is a thing as geared too low.
