Default Losi Transmission

Now Im thinking of using losi axles in my class 1 scaler and I know they have been used, Iv got a set on my comp crawler that im gonna use.

In the scaler space is gonna be tight as usual so im wondering seeing as the comp crawler trans doesnt gear down, can i run direct drive from a 21t brushless to a 1:1 transfer case and do away with the comp crawler trans altogether??

I dont think a 21T will handle a direct drive set-up like that.

Ive pondered a similar set-up, but think at the very least, your gonna want a 2:1 reduction t-case and a 4-pole sensored motor to pull it off(for a class 1). But I hav'nt done this yet...Even at 2:1, the worms will be spinning crazy fast. 50:1 FDR for stock worms, 42:1 if you go HD's.

My experience for scalers has FDR in the 70:1 area give or take. This is with HD gears for durability...

Another option ive looked at (For Class 1) is use an LNC tranny mounted under the hood to a divorced 1:1 t-case for interior clearance. The math i've done, given a 4.19" diameter tire, has me starting with a 22T pinion. this will put FDR with HD gears around 48:1

This is achieving similar results as a 2:1 T-Case, but gives you options to decrease pinion sizes if the motor is'nt happy. In which the "Volt Up, Gear Down" lessons apply!

Not sure what you mean by direct drive, and when you say the LCC doesn't gear down. The LCC still benefits from the ratio between the pinion and the transmission input gear. If by direct drive you mean the tranny output is the same rpm as the motor...that certainly won't work. But a pinion driving a much larger spur gear on the tranny output shaft might be okay.

Mate im running a night crawler trans set up, i got rid of the losi stuff and fitted up Tamiya gears out of a TT-01 straight onto the pinion like a F1. I am running a 60 spur and a 25 pinion i think. Only downside is the AV pitch. Im looking at using a scx-10 rear axle with the scx-10 gear holder, using 32 pitch gears, looking at it i need to do some chopping and welding but in theory it should work.

As mentioned, the typical motor to driveshaft ratio is ~3:1.
