Default any pics of axle opened up?

i have a project in mind where i would want to cut the axle housing off just beyond the bearing resesses next to the worm drive. (i need a 90deg gearbox that also provide reduction).

i just wanted to see the gear sitting in half the housing with a measurement from side to side. any help would be appreciated. (exploded parts view manuals just don't show the detail i need).

have you not fmj'd yours yet? really a simple thing to do. i still want to try a full m3 conversion (minus the rear lockouts) with some knurled ezloc's instead of the thread in 4-40. just cheap and haven't picked up another set of housings to play with.

to those not in the know, the full metal jacket mod is one i like to take credit for, and basic premise is to replace all the threaded areas in the axles (i did the trans as well) with brass inserts. this takes away the wobble that can happen after many teardowns of the axle, and gives a much greater bite to the threads. with the screw in kind (mcmaster carr or overkillrc carries inserts), it gives a near bulletproof connection compared to the ez-strip losi plastic.

the problem for me was in the early days of phoenix testing, i would strip threads in falls, so i ended it. then i did the inner axles, and found that the screws could be torqued well without the worry of stripping.

I have done the top, but not the inside (like pictured).....yet! And, yes, very simple to do.

I am amazed at how it stiffens everything. It feels sharper and tighter. And I have not done the inside.

This is for you, sir!

Got another question for you losi owners. My axle is on the way but I need another measurement. What is he vertical distance from the centerline of the axle input shaft to the output axles? I need to know that exact offset. I hope the question is clear. Unlike an axial axle, which has no offset, I know the losi axle is different. Is the input something like 1/2" higher than the outputs?
