| making a bead lock wheel
i used the search so don't refer me to the search button i want to know what it will take to turn a standard wheel into a bead locked wheel specificly a set of rear stampede/rustler wheels due to the scale look of them and i would prefer to use a bead lock instead of a glue i know that i will want to narrow the wheel a bit to counter the effect of the tire being on the outside of the rim but what to i need for the outer ring type of screws? materal for the ring or pre-made?? how will i need to cut out the ring to keep it perfectly round? |

Turning a standard wheel into a real beadlock would be pretty difficult. Go look at how maximizer beadlocks work, and then look at the standard wheel. It'd involve cutting, drilling screw holes, finding something to use as a tire-bead pinch, and probably some other interesting obstacles. I'd be willing to bet some company like proline or miximizer will be releasing a 2.2" beadlock i nthe near future. ryan |

my 2.2 beadlocks are based on maximizer's x75 but mine might be aluminum instead of plastic

it would be nice if someone would make some out of plastic instead of aluminum. It would be cheaper and probably plenty strong. The alum ones are always way to expensive, i've bought one set before but after spending so much on them i was afraid to scratch them. I ended up selling them. But if you can find a way to make cheaper alum ones that would be great. Now to give my $0.02 about your question. I think it could be done, but it would require a pretty larger ammount of work. Even more to keep it from looking like crap. If all you have to work with is the basic tools i would just buy some. |

Heres an idea that may work Take a set of these Associated wheels http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LX2954&P=7 then instead of using there ugly face plates cut the the front off the pede wheel and then just drill the four holes to line up with the back of the associated wheel. bolt it together and you have yourself a nice functional beadlock. im sure you could get it to work |

i have those wheels right now for my current tlt and they work great, only problem i have with the is on the standard axles the locknuts do not seat all the way down and work their way loose its and easy fix, just need to counter sink the hole a little more now for the new problem i have with them they are not realistic enough for me the reason i want to turn the stampede/rustler rear wheel into a bead lock is becuase they look more like an american racing outlaw wheel and would complete the look i am shooting for i guess this will be something i need to figure out on my own :? | |
