| Mayhem White Lightning Series
For a while now I've had a set of white Delrin wheels that Mayhem Engineering sent me to do some dying on. With work being hectic for the last several weeks I have not had time to get around to it. Sorry Dan This is a really simple process just takes a little time and patience. This will give anybody a chance that wants the light weight features of Delrin and have some color options other than black. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING THIS OUTSIDE OR IN SHOP WHERE A LITTLE SPLASHING WILL NOT MATTER First find a color or you can mix colors for different effects. Color Chart Then get about a 3qt boiler bring the water to a boil and add dye. Drop the heat to a slow simmer Use 1 or 2 beadlock screws to attach some tie-wire or something similar to the wheels. Then dip the wheels fully submerged and hang the tie-wire over the side of the pot for easy access. Heres where the patience takes place it may take a good while to get the shade you want since these wheels are really dense. The ones I just done took over an hour. Finally when at the shade you want remove from boiler and rinse w/cold water and thoroughly dry them blowing out the bead and the screw holes to prevent a later mess. Here's some pics of the wheels I just completed. Its a mixture of Scarlet & Wine colored dyes with just a hint of black. I'll use these on my Losi 1/10 when it arrives. Kinda hard to believe these started out bright white Last edited by TEDROCKZ; 01-11-2009 at 02:50 PM. |

I like the way they fade in to the center with the darker rings out towards the ends. Maybe hit up the lock rings with a coat of black and it would really set it off.

First up, those rims came out sweet Maybe a silly question.........but does boiling delrin for an hour do anything to the integrity of the material ? |

| No integrity issues the delrin is pretty resilient. It just take longer soak times since the delrin is so dense. If you let them soak for a short time they are more semi-transparent. You really don't need to actually boil them just keep the hot.

Any idea how deep the dye goes? When they scratch, will you see white again?

thats a great color. With the amount of dye choices out, you could pretty much make any shade you want.
