| Imprtance of void area?
Hey gang, I'm new to this forum and website, but not to the hobby. I am extremely interested in making an r/c rock crawler/trail truck for the wooded area behind my house. I'd like to keep it reasonably scale looking. I plan to use bits from a TLT and use 2.2" tires. I like these http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXUM92&P=7 but I am unsure about thier ability for rock crawling, but I would run them on narrowed rims and possibly without inserts. I am also considering http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEXA3&P=7 as these tire have a greater void area. and may be better for crawling. I am also considerind som trimmed masher 2000s but again I am unsure about that as well. For crawling, what should I look for? |

soft and flexible may be the most important aspect of a crawler tire. The 2.2 masher 2k's would be perfect!

would you recommend running them with out the inserts? I have some on my rustler ( with the inserts ) and i was trying out the bite on an edge of a table and it just slipped and slipped.

If it can support the weight of the rig. Yes.

well I just tried the Masher 2000's out on my stone wall, and the lugs are much to flexible and have poor traction, however I tried my 2.2 Dirt Hawg T tires and they seem to worlk pertfectly despite not being as tall. I tried both with and without inserts and using a little pressure from my hand to the center of the rim pinched between my fingers. It seems I need less void, atleast for this type of rock (river stone)

Hmmmm. I have a set of 2.2 mashers on my Stampede. I soaked them real good in acetone and softened them up. They are so soft and sticky, I have to have foams in them. They are worn down a but but the tires won't even support the weight of the truck. They just squish down, almost where the wheel in on the ground.

Yep. Too bad they don't make some 8 inch tall, skinny step pin tires! I have masher 2000's. |
