| dyeing aluminum wheels
Has anyone ever tried dyeing aluminum wheels or any machined aluminum parts in general?

Only way that I know is anodizing or machinists dye (used for layout work). Anodizing is available in almost any color...machinists dye (correct name?) I've seen dark blue and I think red, don't recall for sure about the red...just brush it on and let it dry.

Where can you get that stuff. Also would RIT dye work like it does on plastic things such as proline wheels. Never used it just seen it on here and you can find that at Wal mart

Rit dye stained the stainless steel bowl I dyed rims in. So it might work. Cole |

If youre not to worried about the durability of the finish you could try a candy type paint, they come in a variety of different colors.

Not sure how durable that machinists dye would be. Seems it would get scratched really easily. Matt |

Anything short of hard anodizing that you can put on al rims is going to get pretty scratched up around the outer bead area...it's farily tough, but solvents like brake cleaner and carb cleaner wash it right off. It's easy to touch up. |
