Default Narrowed Vanquish Products Little Harry wheels by Crawler Innovations

I got this idea from one of the Crawler Innovations Team Drivers and I asked my machinist to narrow down a set of Vanquish Products Little Harry Pro-Comp 1.9 wheels I already owned. The reason for doing this is to increase the tire contact pressure and increase the tire height for 1.9 competition crawlers. By squeezing the tire onto a narrow bead lock while using an over sized foam such as the 1.9 single stage Lil' Nova Foams it pushes the tire out / up. As it stretches the tire taller it makes it firmer to hold on a side hill better and prevent the tire from folding over under itself. It also narrows the contact patch and places more pressure on that contact patch.

Up until now almost all 1.9 competition wheels are .750 wide or larger. The custom VP LH wheel pictured is .500 . It looks a little odd being so narrow but my machinist has been running his own custom made wheels in this width all season and it makes the tires much taller. That not only helps for ground clearance but for side hilling and getting through tight gates.

My original set of VP LH's is over a year old. Apparently VP has gone to thicker bead lock rings on the newer wheels. My machinist dropped off the narrowed VP LH's last night and I had to snap some comparison pictures before he left with other original width VP LH wheels he is narrowing this week. The photos are not the best because I took them with my iphone but at least you get the idea.

This is also a service Crawler Innovations offer. There is information about the service on the web site. We have done 2.2 and 1.9 wheels from many different manufactures.

I got to see some 1.9 rovers on 1/2" wide BWD wheels last weekend at DDD. They appeared to work extremely well. I believe they had the Nova single stage foams. Tires were about 3/8" taller than the same tires on PL wheels. IMO, the wheel width was perfect for the tire.

Sorry it has taken so long to update this thread.

We have now narrowed multiple sets of these wheels.

Here is some pictures of my son's MRC with narrowed 1.9 VP Lil' Harry's and 1.9 Super Soft cut n shut Panther Cobras.
