Default vent the wheels?

Ok im a lil confused i have seen some alum. wheels with a vent hole and ive been lookng at alot of videos and pics here lately. my tires seem to act as balloons, they dont grab or conform to anything.

Im running white dot's on wheel works with nova dual foams.

Should i vent the wheels or am i not doing something right.

here is a pic

I prefer to vent the tires. Or you can drill a 1/8" hole in the wheels.

You can either vent the tire or the wheel. I normally vent the tire. Cutting two or three small holes about 1/8" in the tread section of the tire works for me and I've never tore a tire. Or you can vent the wheels by drilling 2 1/8" holes in the wheel.

The vent holes will allow the foams to do their job.

Leather punches work very well. I punch 4 3/32 holes around the tire and haven't had any problems yet. Good luck.

Thanks mann0mann for the idea.

btw, those are pinks, not whites.

I drill two 1/8" holes 180 degrees apart from one another. I had a freind tear a tire after venting it. I've had good luck with this setup. Hope this helps.

My wheels weren't vented until recently. They were only slightly bouncy here in Sacramento, but when I took the truck up to the mountains, the wheels ballooned up because of the air pressure difference. I hated all that air being stuck in the tires. As soon as I got back, I drilled holes in the wheels.

hehehe

thanks again guys.

I recommend to vent the wheel. Dirt and water are a foams enemy. I prefer to drill four 1/16 air holes in the wheels. Sometimes you can use air holes to tune a tire, but as better foams and more densities become available, just tune the foam to control forward bite and sidehill. I know it's easier to vent a tire, but that doesn't mean it's best. Any used tires I buy that are vented become sidewalls to make other tires. That is how strongly I feel against venting the tire.

I drilled all my wheels with two 1/8 holes 180* from one another. I had vented tires when I first started crawling but after ripping a tire I went to drilling the wheels.

I too vent the wheels. 3 holes equally spaced around the wheel works for me.

FYI, if you drill from the outside and into the beadlock threads (near the center of course) you can vent the wheel by removing a couple of the beadlock screws. A pair of my Eritex comp heavies are done this way. I can remove 2 from the inside bead at opposing ends, and 2 from the outside beadlock ring.

i vent the wheel with a 1/8 hole 180 degree apart. or on some wheels you can just leave a beadlock screw out of the inner beadlock that works on some of my wheels that i dont want to drill holes into

This might sound like a dumb question. If you remove one or two of the beadlock screws aren't you defeatiing the purpose of the beadlocks?
Maybe I am wrong but by drilling a hole in the tire for venting. Does drilling a hole or two weaken the strength of the tire to where it could shred or come apart. Just a couple of thoughts.
Thanks

If you vent the wheel you can usually use a screw to plug it back up.

To AX10xman,
Thanks for the info. I forgot about using a screw as a plug.

Many competition drivers that use Vanquish Products wheels only run three screws per ring to save weight and also make it easy to remove tires to tune foams. Quality wheels like Vanquish Products, Wheels Works, Mayhem and a few others will hold a tire without every screw in them. You can drill into the bead lock screw hole and use that as a vent if you don't want to drill through the wheel entirely. I still recommend drilling through the bead lock wheel. It's simple, effective and easy. Plus if need be, you could always put a piece of tape over the hole to cover it for courses run through water or mud.

As for venting the tire, under most circumstances, it doesn't weaken the tire. Neither does drilling the wheel though for that matter.

I vent the wheel because i dont like dirt and water getting into the tire as it can cause your foam to degrade faster. I drill the wheel on the outer most part but towards the inside beadlock ring. I drill down over the beadlock ring bolt hole and into that hole. I then leave the corresponding bolt out of the ring for venting. Depending on how much air you want to move you can do several per wheel. If you dont want to vent so much you just put the bolt in the hole. Hope that makes sense.

This saved me a lot of work after that bonus gate through the river on the super course at Nationals. I have 4 holes drilled per wheel and I just put small pieces of electrical tape over the vent holes before I ran the course....then I pulled them afterward.
