| making wheels, got some questions
Looking to make another set of wheels, was wondering what width I should make them, I currently run a Berg and all my wheels are 1.3" wide. I have Rovers mounted on them with 5.5" Nova DD foams in the 2.25" width. I have seen much narrower wheel widhts on rigs, which seem to make the tire much taller. So back to the question, how wide do I make them? I want the tire to be as tall as possible but if I go with a 1" or a .75" wide wheel can I still use my 2.25" wide foams? Delrin or Aluminum? How do Delrin wheels hold up? I do not comp so while performance is important, I would rather have something that is going to hold up, I assume Delrin is more "fragile" than Alum but how much? Adjustable offset, Adjustable width or adjustable weight, please rate them in importantance please. thanks all!! |

A lot of your questions have answers based on: Rocks you crawl on How you like tires to work Do you need a lot of breakover height Do you have steering angle issues due to rim width Etc. Sorta hard to give you an answer on your questions. Delrin is quite strong and will "give" a bit when hammered whereas aluminum may bend. I wouldn't worry about using Delrin, just make sure you design for it, you really can't take a GOOD aluminum design and copy it in Delrin. Adjustable offsets allow some easy playing on your part and can be used on other rigs without having to sell off a bunch of wheels and then buy replacements. Hope this helps some. |
