| Best 2.2 tires for snow?
Alright guys so snow has fallen here in Anchorage Alaska and finally found some guys to trail with. My 1.9's aren't cutting it so I decided to build a purpose built snow trail truck and decided to go 2.2's. For those that run in snow, what tires do you guys find best or like to run with? Taller? Wider? Deeper thread? Softer? Stiffer? Right now I'm thinking: All 2.2's RC4wd: Iroks Rox Lox (like my current 1.9) Mud Slingers Mud bashers Baja claws Proline: Super swamped TSL Are there anything else? If there are please list them up. Thanks! |

I have two sets of tires i run for snow...the iroks and hot bodies white dot rovers...the rovers do extremely well in the snow. They practically float over the snow.. The iroks do pretty well and really do well on hard packed snow and ice... That being said...i run the rovers 90% of the time because they just simply work great! |

The Mud slinger seems to be a great tire in the snow. Grips enough lifts the rig on the snow and doesn't dig to quickly keeping the rig a float. I also really like the Swampers as they also have a similar performance but with better lateral grip. If you want a exclusive snow tire and have the speed and horsepower to keep momentum up. Its really hard to find a better snow throwing tire then a Imex Truck pull tire.

Two words, snow chains. Google snow chain for rc and make some for yourself. Then it won't matter what tire you use.

Thanks guys! And sorry I forgot that there was a tire and wheel section. Of the mods want to move this thread then so be it! I'm really leaning towards the Iroks, Rox lox or even the pit bulls right now... |

I run the TSL SX XL with snow chains, works good in all types of snow. That being said, a friend of mine has some clod tires and adapters he runs on his wraith and it is unstoppable! I thought my set up was good tell I ran with him! I was impressed enough that I will be getting a set. He was not running snow chains. |

IMEX Red Rocks are the ONLY tire in the snow. If you got good wheel speed, you might even stay "afloat" when the other guys are stuck. Your welcome.

I agree with the proline masher's but if you are trying to stay with a scale tread I would say 2.2 iroks on wide rims and probably extra wide but soft foams. On a 1:1 the debate is whether its better to float on top of the snow or dig down to firm ground, but with a RC truck you have to consider the scale of the depth and go with what works on 1:1's like the icelandic trucks and even some of the moose buggies in AK.

What is your current setup? Brushed on brushless? I will assume its an scx vs a wraith or other?? Aside from these questions I would suggest chains like others have suggested. That way you can still run your normal tire setup and get good traction. The best of both worlds!! Typically when you move to a 2.2 vs 1.9 you also have to cut the body to support the larger tires so the body will now look "goofy" when you decide to switch back to the 1.9's for spring running. Either way good luck |

Well this snow rig is going to be an scx10 running a 3500 KV brushless for wheel speed. I've actually tried the tires from my 1/16th scale summit and they seem to work pretty good in the snow!

Been there! Fun stuff. Those are Panther tires. Floaters and flingers. Fun. Kept breaking shock towers so build a brace for them and they'll be fine then. |
