Default Pitbulls: Are they worth the hype?

I have not run Pitbulls ever. I am intrigued due to the fact many people talk about them being the end all scale tire. The LHS told me that they are ok, but the HB Rovers or Sedonas are much better. Maybe due to the terrain up here?

Anyone have any opinions on these tires? Thanks

What are you putting them on ,I don't think HB Rovers or Sedonas are aloud for scale, But pitbulls are one of the best scale tires out there , IMO.

Crap sorry, Wraith. I'm not planning on comping this one anytime soon, as the snow is starting.

I'll take a wild guess and say that they stock the Rovers and Sedonas, but don't stock PBs?

Actually the reason I'm asking. Pretty much the only shop within a few hours drive that actually carry pbs. And they stock many HB and prolines. Where everyone more or less has axials and a few rc4wd.

HB rovers and sedonas are not scale tires, in looks or legality for scale events. That being said, if you don't care much about looks or participating in any sanctioned events then just grab the best performing tire you can.

So that's kind of the issue. I get a chance every now and then to go on the trail with the BFG krawlers. Which suck. When I go scale, it will probably be an RC4WD TF2, giving me options for scale. But for a trail truck, where in my mind, performance over everything.

Sounds like a choice is made.

But to answer the original question, yeah pitbulls are very decent.

I like pits for my wraith and MT Claws for my deadbolt. It also depends on the type of rocks that are in your area. We have mostly lava rocks and the MT Claws work great .

They are good tires but they don't work everywhere and they are far from being the *best* tire. There is no best tire. Too many variables from terrain to driver style to the weight and type of rig.

I used to use Losi Rock claws on my nightcrawler. They performed ok in this terrain. That was years ago, and the nc needs help. For my wraith what 2.2 would be a good-great general performing tire for this terrain. Again I'm not concerned with scale comp rules, but have been told by other locals running ax10s that the HB tires work great, hence my chain of questions. I'm open to RC4WD tires to, I'm not overly impressed with axials, so I want to look elsewhere. Thanks for the input guys.

on your wraith? the stock tires arent bad. any aftermarket tire will probably be better though. get what you think looks best to you and you will be happy. performance doesnt really change that much if you cant drive.

IMHO, the "best" all around scale tire is the PL TSL... but, they have size issues for scale comps.
So, I run the 1.9 TSL XL on my C2 (which is legal and max size) and the Pitbull's on my C3 (because PL made the 2.2 XL's too damn big to be legal!).

If I wasn't competing, I'd personally run the PL TSL 2.2 XL's on a Wraith.

Thanks for the input I'll check out the pl. I seem to remember something about pl tires not working well with other wheels?

Proline tsl sx doesn't play nice with 3 piece internal bead lock wheels. most conventional bead locks that have rings on the outside and clamp down on the bead, should work a little better.

The TSL's are a solid performer in the woods. My .02 is the Pittbulls tend to gum up easy in the woods but seem to perform admirably on rock where the "knobbies" can give you solid traction. The TSL's will give you great bite in any trail terrain.

Sedonas and Rovers have been solid comp tires for years.
Rovers will out perform scale tires all day long.

Pitbulls are scale.
