Default Wheel width question

How do you measure the width of bead locks and glue ons? Is it the inside width or is it from bead lock ring to bead lock ring? Is a narrow rim better than a wide rim?

Outside width.

Narrow vs wide depends on your goals. Each have their advantages.

Any chance someone could list out the advantages and disadvantages of thinner vs wider wheels?

Thinner rim gives smaller contact patch? Less support for sidewalls? More?
What little info I can find seems to contradict.

Also how does vehicle weight play in?
Especially in terms of crawling. I understand a faster truck will have different needs.

Thanks!!
