Default Proline Hyrax Lug cut ??

Just wondering if anyone out there with the proline hyrax tyres has siped or cut lugs, and what results they got just curious as I am impressed by my tyres but wondering if there is more you can get out of them.

cheers

We have also been impressed with these tires. We have two sets and like them a lot. I'm curious as well if anyone has made them better.

More siping? Is that even possible on these tires? LOL

Or cut off some lugs. But they are fairly spaced out now.

I honestly think they could be better with a lug cut but I think I will have to experiment

I'll be interested to hear how that works for you, these tires have a lot of lug spacing as it is.

Looks like wheel hop waiting to happen.

Almost like these disasters of a tire, but not quite.

Title: Could you IMAGINE the wheel hop?

(a short tale of an ID10T) - ages ago, my first-gen E-Maxx, I had bought pre-mount pin-type racing HPI wheels and tires and loved them.

That's all well and good, but I was bored one day and took a look at the old stock chevron tires, and just started hacking away at every other row of rubber - figured I'd make the rears into sort-of a paddle-style tire, why not?

Wasn't planning on using them again as-is.

Trouble was, there was an ODD number of those rows. So, as I began working around the tire I VERY quickly realized that I had ruined them completely.

ALWAYS count the rows of lugs before cutting - Only trim if there's an EVEN amount, if there's a lot to count I'd dab a dot of paint on every other row and verify my count.

Very few rows on a E-Maxx tire - Dumbest thing I ever did in R/C... so far!

Maybe instead of chopping the whole row off, it would probably be better just to trim the lugs down to smaller blocks.

I would only go as far as using a cutoff wheel to split the top lugs and test from there. I do little by little. if its not getting any better, find a better tire.

Right unfortunately I got carried away and did not take pics or video but I will at my next competition

after having a comp on the tyres today the day started out raining, but dried out later in the day, all the rock we were on was granite with a bit of leaf litter and 1st course had a bit of light mud,

First course was wet and had small patches of light mud but for me it was bad as shock setup killed me, my rear springs were way too soft but grip levels were showing promise compared to what they used to be. I ended up DNF on course but so did 7 other drivers out of 13

Second course was a lot better with the rock drying out it really proved to me that doing the lug cut was well worth it some climbs were very easy there was 1 gate that most people were taking but I seemed to do it quite easily

Third Course they had really come in to their own as the rock was starting to warm up I scored the best with only 6 reverses and 2 bonus gates only 2 other drivers managed to get the 2 bonus gates.

now I honestly believe that the lug cut made these tyres a hell of a lot better and I will put up a video of it going through a course next time I am out and ill get a video of someone with different brand(s) so you can compare them against each other and also hyraxes with no lug cut as one of the guys I compete with has a similar rig but runs hyraxes as well and you guys can then make your choice as to weather this could work for you as well but I believe it did work for me.

Cheers

right I now have a video that I have put together about 5 of us got together all with different tyre types and we swapped them around this is the compilation of my rig only, but I have to say after all of this I am going to have to say that yes the lug cut made the car perform better, But you will get more performance gains from tuning your rig to your preferances, some of the tyres in this test I expected a lot more from them but on my rig they performed like crap.

anyhow here is the link
