Why are you bleaching your Ripsaws? If you're trying to unglue your tires, your local hobby store probably has CA Glue solvent. Bleach will destroy the foams inside the tire and I can't imagine it being good for the tires either. |

Trying to soften the tires, make them more sticky. Used to do this w 1:1 tires at the drag strip. Just wasn't sure what it would do to this hard RTR tire rubber. No foams just the tire.

bleach at the drag strip has heat involved with the tires spinning. I dont think you will gain anything without using simple green.

Soak them in wd40 to soften the rubber. Spray it all over the tire them throw it in a zip lock bag over night..

huh !? boil those tires and wheels in plain hot water about 20-30 minutes. Attempt to saturate the tire's interior with water. Squeezing the tires during the boiling process helps the the water infiltrate the tire's interior. * the next step will be dealing with scalding hot water... so be careful not to scald yourself. Use a spoon or some other tool (prongs) to press down on the tire's sidewalls to break the bead. Don't force it and tear the tires sidewall. If it doesn't come loose on the first attempt... boil it some more before another attempt. Continue boiling for another 20-30 minutes after the bead(s) are broken. This will help with removing any residual CA it works... without causing damage to the tire or wheel. I've been using this method since the early 80's. the foam inserts may not survive but they're likely already booger'd . Both my son and I boiled our ripsaws off the stock axial nylon wheels. It was easy to do... and water is fairly abundant/cheap to use. In both cases our foam insert's survived fine. But mine were already worn from lots of use and so... were discarded. * if you don't want the house smelling like rubber... simple... boil them outside. |

Sticky kicks works awesome for softening tires, way better than simple green.

Or just buy a new set of sticky tires... Why go through all of that trouble trying to make tires sticky, when we have a vast selection of sticky tires to choose from now. They're only $50 for 4. |

| Re: Bleaching RTR rips I thought boiling water poured over them with the bleach in the bottom of the bucket would be hot enough, but no. I am going to get simple green today.

| Re: Bleaching RTR rips I just hate the thought of getting rid of new things, without attempting to "tinker" with them first. Although, I have been eyeing the Irocks. |

| Re: Bleaching RTR rips The RTR ones, that I have, are not as sticky, soft as the R35's. Which is why I am trying to get these softer. I am going to cut the stock foams some too.

| Re: Bleaching RTR rips 1.9 all supposed to be same R35 white dot, 2.2 kit is R35 white dot (stickier) rtr is harder and definitley not as good...you didn't state what youre working with. Stock foams suck either way, too soft and after couple batteries are done.

cutting the treads will allow the tire carcass to flex easier. stock foams are weak.. cutting them is only going to make them fold over easier. simple green would be the way to go. not bleach. 1:1 tires and RC tires are nothing alike in compounds.

Will correct. If I can soften these I will get the double duce foams and maybe some TSL's

Ok. This is what I wanted to know. Also, what about shaving the sidewalls instead of cutting lugs? Thanks! Last edited by Wacki; 02-17-2014 at 05:31 PM.

its all about where and how you cut and sipe your tires. sipping the tread will allow the tread pattern to wrap around the rocks as oppossed to riding on top of the rock. it also allows the tire treads to fold and create more traction. |

simple green is the answer. bucket + simple green + really hot water = satisfaction I mix mine very strong... like a little darker than the shade of green on the RCC logo at the top of the page. I let them sit overnight- sometimes a few days even, there is no rush, although I think everything happens in the first few hours when there is heat present. Then I rinse vigorously, let dry, install, go crawl. |
