| Poor Mans 2.2 Wheel Mods
I have a cheap method of making standard 2.2 wheels stronger and more functional. First, narrow your wheel if you want. Next, take a wheel and go to the hardware store (I used Lowe's) and get large washers to fit the outside of the wheel and smaller washers to go over the hexes. Use epoxy or some other strong glue to attach them to the wheels. The outer washers are a perfect fit for the 2.2 wheel and will protect the outer bead which is the most vulnerable to damage from rocks. The inner washer will strengthen the hexes and kinda look like disc brake rotors. I have done 3 sets of wheels this way and beat the crap out of them with zero failures. |

That's thinking right there. The thick washers it looks like you used will also help add weight to the wheels, which is always a good thing.

Thats also a good way to add a few ounces of weight to each wheel for a lower COG.

Sorry I don't. I just took a wheel over to Lowe's and tried them there. They are almost perfect fits so you will know the correct ones when you try them.

You can also use 1-1/2" x 3/4" reducing washers. Found at any electrical supply house. You can also get them at Lowes and Home Depot seen here on my K2-3L. I just layered them. I painted the washers and layered a set of MSD rock rings on stop. Last edited by LastClodStanding; 04-30-2007 at 02:39 PM. |
