Default Kong tire narrowing?

I got a set of Kongs. Tried them once and decided I needed to narrow them. I read DD's article. I have two questions. After I cut the tire in half, I noticed a seem on each half. Is that what you used to make your measurment from? Did you measure 1/4" from that seem toward the center of the tire to come up with a total of a 3" overall tire width?

That's what I did and it worked great, 1/4 inch from the seam. I also used a marine rubberized adhesive (home depot) that has held up great and it flexes perfect. I put the 2 halfs on maxx rims and flipped the tire bead out so I could get my hand in the tire better to apply the glue. align the tire tread and applied and layer of glue between the 2 seams. also applied a second coat about as high as the seams too.
