Default Make any screwdriver magnetic!

I was working on getting a starter out on my Honda Accord (it is buried) and did not want to lose the bolt into the abyss under the starter so I threw a rare earth magnet in the socket and the bolt came up with the socket. Now when I work with small screws I just throw a magnet on the shaft of the screwdriver/nut driver and the screws or small parts don't go anywhere.

Isn't there a way to make them magnetic using a 9v battery? I remember something about coiling two wires along the shaft, connecting to a battery and letting it sit for a few hours. Been a while since I tried it, maybe somebody can fill in the parts I missed.

I use a coil from an old copier machine servo hooked to a laptop ac adapter to magnetize my screwdrivers.

Works like a champ.

Just leaving a ferrous metal tool attached to a magnet for a small amount of time will leave it with a magnetic force. If you took a large magnet and attached it to the screwdriver for a couple minutes then removed it, the screwdriver should stay magnetized.....depending on the composition of steel in the screwdriver.

I've done this for years. Started as a auto mech now a semi. All you need is a large magnet. Rub the end of the driver back and forth on the magnet a done. If you want it back normal slap it against something hard and done. it litterallyt nocks the magnetisim out of it
