Default Mini sandblaster

I dont have room for sandblasting cabinet. I have small compressor.

So my 2 questions...

1. Im looking at getting a badger mini sandblaster.Any better options. I dont really want to have to find a shop to have this done everytime.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001MA...&robot_redir=1

2. I would using it to clean up tube work of old paint and light surface rust. What media would be best to use.

My guess is that is not going to accomplish what you want. It is designed for mirror etching, the media they recommend is going to be very fine. I doubt you can really deviate much from that due to the design and small size of the unit head. Just observations, not first hand experience with that product. I have used many blast cabinets in the past, I would go down that road instead.

You can build a small cabinet out of a plastic bin and some rubber gloves with a clear plastic/visqueen top and some duct tape that will store nicely. The blast gun is readily avalable at places like grainer or harbor frieght.

Here is a dyi one of our local guys came up with.

Thanks D. Your probably right about the nozzel size. I have looked at picking up a habor frieght gun. I seen few of the diy storage container sandblasters.

Air Erasers (Mini Sandblasters) are actually pretty capable units. Search youtube and you will see they can take off a lot of stuff. Many people using baking soda as a medium. The big issue with them is not their ability to take off stuff, just the time it takes to cover area because of their size.

I have been searching all over web and you tube for mini sandblaster (air erasers) and havent found much, mostly homejobby ones. I dont think baking soda is going be aggressive enough for paint, prime, light surface rust. I read baking soda is more a polish or clean up grimey parts.

It can be pretty abrasive. There's a local company that uses a chiller of some sort to shoot frozen baking soda at fire damaged wood, it shreds a layer of wood away really quickly. I had the same guy blast a Dana 60 axle housing for me that was rusty and cruddy. He did it at a job site, it took about 35 minutes. The housing literally looked brand new.

This guy is using it to strip hot wheels... Which is a very tough paint.

I used them as a kid to strip down all kinds of stuff... We used baking soda then as well. While sometimes the coarser stuff is needed, the baking soda worked on most stuff.... Cheap too

That's nice, it would defiantly come in handy with what I do like stripping old pair off of beadlocks and stuff. I might just get the first one you said eric113.

I finally got one after having to cancel my order from one place and order from another. I haven't had a chance to try it out. I'm going to try the baking soda first. I will post up when I start using it.

I finally got a chance to use it. Pretty easy to use.If you going to use your air compressor all you need is a 1/4'' male air quick connecter. I turn up the compressor to 80 p.s.i.

I didn't use the meda that came with the kit. I used baking soda per EddieO. It work ok, I think something more course will work faster.

I had new bright JK body that was given to me and has 4-5 coats of paint. You can see the layers. It also work on tube work paint.

For me and what I'm using it for I think it will work good. I'm going to be trying out other media. WORD OF CAUTION... be very careful where you sit the baster!!!! I ended breaking the glass jar. So I need to order a new one.

I use a speed blaster.

http://www.amazon.com/Unitec-UNI007B...=speed+blaster

It only gets used for metal, so regular old play sand does the job.

Effective on our tubing cages ? I know when i use a full size cabinet blaster it can be challenging at times. How fast does it use up the media ?

let use know how that works out. I need to either make a blast cabinet or find something compact like you two are useing. I would prefer a cabinet but space is limited, so a hand held unit that works well enough not to cause me to toss it to the ground and stomp it is preferred.

I have used HF air eraser on some corroded nitro blocks and the elbow that gets the caked on black crap all over it as well as some 1:1 rotors with minor surface rust. Didn't use media that came with it but some regular baking soda and it did very well. Have to refill often and shake sometimes though. Think it only holds an ounce or two

It works well enough. It strips paint/primer/rust/whatever and doesn't leave the cage too rough. Some areas can be hard to reach, but not impossible. Media flow is adjustable.

Harbor frieght doesn't sell the air eraser anymore. That why picked up the badger unit. What psi do you set? On the badger instructions said no more than 80 psi.
