| Band Saw Or Scroll Saw?
What would be better for cutting delrin and thin aluminum? I just need something small for fabricating at home.

Intricate work - scroll saw thickness - not sure I would try to cut over 1/4 with a scroll saw The speeds on most small band saws is really fast for cutting metal and or delrin, but can be done with the right blade- bimetal and a vari tooth like 10/14 or 14/18. If your doing alot of staright cuts go with a band saw that has a miter gauge, as the only scroll saw that I found with a built in miter gauge is a proxxon. | |

Ya nothing intricate just straight, and only 1/4" delrin and nothing thicker that 063 aluminum, for all the thick and intricate work I tell my stepdad and he laser cuts it.

I have been pondering this same purchase just today as I was using a jig saw with a metal blade to fab a motor plate for a brushless conversion. There just has to be an easier way.

i work in shop that manufacturers plastic s***. we work with acrylic, pvc, hdpe, hips, polycarbonate(lexan), delrin, and pretty much anyother plastic you can think of. and my advive for getting a clean cut on plastic is to use a blade that the teeth DONT HOOK DOWN. if they do your likely to blow the underside of your cut out. and when using 1/4" blade go slow they ike to wander A LOT. hope this helps out a bit |
