Anodizing is part of the finished surface. When you remove anodizing, you're actually removing the surface layer. It's minuscule, but a bit too much and tolerances go to hell. I've wrecked a few parts, but unless the fit is super-critical, it's not a big deal.

had a hard time picking up the detail with my cheap camera. anyway i have Used Grease lightning before. Took a little while seem to work pretty well. I'm all out of that. Found some really old easy off under the sink thought I would give it a try. Took the stuff off after a while. To take a bit longer than grease lightning. Only walked away for 10 or 15 min. As you can see some of anodizing is still there. Some of the other parts got discolored. I thought it would take it to a natural aluminum color. Didn't pit the aluminum but there's been a natural color mixed in with darker color.. What would cause that? Is there a way to get rid of it? Thanks |

Just hit them with the polishing wheel or give them a brushed finish and the dark spots will disappear.
