| ? for the Pros
Looking around at my local welding shop, asking some questions got me the answer that Mapp gas is out of business, as in they aren't going to produce it anymore [Plymouth Wayne Welding, Howell, MI.] My question to you is: Is Propylene going to produce the same results in silver soldering tube chassis together. It burns a few hundred degrees colder than Mapp. But still hotter that Propane. Comes in yellow cylinders also. I haven't built anything in a year or two, and Mapp gas seems to be eluding me to replace my 14oz bottle. Silver solder prices have gone up too. |

You should be okay with it. Might take a little longer to heat up the joints, but it'll work.

home dumpster has mapp gas a twin gas micro torch like the one bernzomatic makes that hd sells would get a lot hotter then prop or mapp alone MAPP gas is going away,,but MAP-PRO is takin its place,,it contains Propylene http://news.thomasnet.com/companystory/816056 "St. Louis, MO (March 19, 200 - TurboTorch, a leading manufacturer of a line of air-fuel and oxy-fuel products, has announced it will begin offering MAP//PRO(TM) gas today as the new premium fuel for the hand torch industry. The introduction comes after the announcement that the sole North American manufacturer of MAPP® gas will no longer produce MAPP gas as it is closing its Canadian operations. MAPP gas is currently the hand torch industry's premium fuel used primarily by professionals. MAP//PRO, which is produced by Worthington Cylinders of Columbus, OH, has a higher flame temperature and better combustion intensity than propane, which enables professional users to complete their tasks more quickly. MAP//PRO also has a higher vapor pressure than MAPP resulting in better performance in colder temperatures." Last edited by rmdesignworks; 11-10-2009 at 08:06 PM. |

We use Propylene at work for all our torches, I just cut some 10" plate last week with it. Gets plenty hot, and we still use mapp tips.
