| Cutting a Cutting Board
I'm thinking about making my own chassis for a Wheely King based Sportman rig from a Wal-Mart sourced cutting board and wondered what the best Dremel or Dremel type cut-off wheel would work for cutting the basic shape since I don't have any powered saws available to me right now.

A jewelers saw will make much cleaner cuts and wont melt the plastic.

Interesting idea on the cutting board....is it rigid enough to something like a chassis?

This one is pretty stout, it's 11"wx14"lx3/8"t and I can get about 3/8" or so of deflection out of it if I really put some effort into it across the board's entire 14" length | |

Looks like the one we have at work will run about $14.00 retail and the replacement blades are around $3.90 (both of which I'll get 30% off of )

i have cut they cutting board with a dremel and a tablesaw and both had the same reaction. when i cut them with something that was high speed the plastic would bond back together. you need something that will cut slowly which means it will take longer to cut. you need less heat and friction to cut the cuttingboard good and clean. best of luck |

Scroll Saw. I use a Dremel 1620 on medium speed. It is a slow feed, but works well.

Do the cutting boards hold paint or do you just leave the chassis white?

| Depends on which board you buy, the Wal-Mart and Target near me both carried plain white and black with flakes in it. I bought the latter but I imagine you can dye the white one if needed just like many plastic and nylon RC parts.

I used 1/4" cutting board for my super, the chassis is 12" long. Braced properly it works awesome. I used a coping saw from Lowes to cut it. You can't dye cutting board. Because its food grade it is made to not absorb liquids. I left a chunk in a pan for 24 hours then pulled it out. All the color rinsed right off of it. |

Here's a thought, I have used the Dremel plastic bit to trim off the rear of my plate holder when I had a motorcycle the bit is long like a drill bit. Could you use the same bit in a drill press and adjust the speed as you see fit? Could be used like a Scroll Saw, except it cuts in any direction. |
