Default MAPP Torch Help

I'm attempting to make a front bumper out of aluminum. I'm trying to use Dura-Fix and the propane torch I was using wasn't providing the heat I needed. I bought a MAPP torch which can be used with just MAPP or a MAPP/O2 mix. I tried to use this new torch and it is turning everything black. I followed the instructions that came with the torch so I don't know what the problem is.

Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Dont quote me on this, but i dont think you can cut alluminum with a cutting torch.

As far as i know they are only for iron / steel

Thanks but I'm not trying to cut it I'm trying to weld/braze or whatever you'd call it with the Dura-Fix product. I basically just need to get it hot enough and the MAPP should do it, I just don't know how to keep it from turning everything black.

I tried that, but didn't think it got the aluminum hot enough...maybe I didn't leave it on long enough.

how about keeping it black, then when your done use a wire wheel on a grinder and take off all the black?

got a pic of what you doing...did it braze it??? maybe I should of stayed with it longer..might of worked huh???

You'll get the black soot using just mapp, use mapp and oxy, if/when you have the flame adjusted right it won't produce that soot, and should get plenty hot.

I've never had any luck brazing aluminum. It just won't stick together.

And btw, the Mapp will get it hot enough to melt, which pretty much ruins the part.
