| Jig for through drilling 5mm output shafts?
I am sick of utilizing setscrews to hold my driveshafts on and would like to replace them with through pins, like on my Traxxas Rustler. Before I go cob jobbing and eyeballing this, I figured I would ask if anyone makes jigs that would slide over a 5mm output shaft to hold a drill bit centered, similar to what is available for suspension links, only going perpendicular to the shaft instead of into the end of it. Does such a seemingly simple tool exist? If not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to accurately accomplish this? I figured I'd have to dissasemble the trans/axles and put the pinion and trans output in a V-block on a drill press. Does this sound feasable, or am I missing something? I thought that the Traxxas pins might allow a little bit of additional slop, so maybe just use long 3mm setscrews to thread all the way through? If nothing else I would like to drill/tap my Junfac driveshafts so that they can take double setscrews like the factory shafts took. Any reccomendations for drilling/tapping the stainless shafts? I have allready ground a second flat spot onto all my pinions/outputs. Thank you for any input. |
