LMAO. I would have guessed it would have melted. It's cutting with fire. Better stick with waterjets for delrin.

I have cut sheets of .185" think ABS and it cut really clean. I guess delrin is just to dense. Well this sucks.

I've seen .250 ABS, and .125" plexiglass laser cut successfully.

Shoei1 I believe you may be on to something with the density. I've heard of people doing thin sheets of plexiglass. I guess delrin is just a little to "plasticy" if thats a word. I've also heard that UHMW can't be laser cut either. Its a crazy thing.

is there a setting to change the temperature of the beam and maybe the cut width. I'm not super familiar with the laser machines, I know on our waterjet there is no way of changing the thickness of cut or cut width but I can back off on the Pressure.

When I was looking at having my super chassis laser cut in Delrin the machinist said that is exactly what would happen with delrin over (dont remember) thickness in a laser machine. That's why I decided to just go ahead and let him do them out of aluminum.

All of the downtown chassis's were cut with a laser cutter, im not sure of what model machine or anything.

But they turned out like stamped steel, flawless.

A friend I know cuts delrin with almost the same laser cutter as you have. He had some delrin that didn't cut all the way through one time. But nothing major really in cutting it. Just have to learn the proper settings.

He uses Corel Draw to doodle something and I know he drops the power/intensity down to avoid melting it. So when the delrin sheets come out, they aren't all gooey looking. The thinner you go, the less intense I would imagine the laser should be. I had some pieces cut by him a little while ago for a scaler chassis.

If you really wanted to know what settings he uses, contact me via pm and i'll send him an email and ask.

I love google.. took me a few minutes to figure out but this is his model:

The thickest of materials in a single pass:
1/4" w/ 15 watts
1/2" w/ 30 watts
3/4" w/ 50 watts
1 1/4" w/ 100 watts
