Default Powder Coating

I was wondering why I don't see alot of guys with scale crawlers powder coating there tube bumpers, chassis, links, and etc. Is there some reason for this? I have a friend who does alot of baja parts in his garage on a hand me down stove.

I would assume it's mainly due to the difficulty/hazards of doing it yourself, or the cost and time involved in having it done for you.

I'll send in customers parts to pc if they want, but most choose not to. A basic frame costs about $50 and smaller parts (say a set of bumpers and sliders) about $20, whereas paint is basically free. PC finish is definitely nice, and of course super durable, but the cost is a consideration.

Yep... It just seems too expensive. How much is a decent set up? You can't beat a $3 can of krylon.

We do a lot of anodize and powder coat, the shop that I use for all of my plating needs has a $50.00 min. per color, So just to do a couple of small parts is just not worth it.

I use the Eastwood hotcoat gun and powders to do my stuff. If it's metallic, it gets powdercoated. I know it costs more initially, but it's nice to coat/bake/use without having to wait for the paint to dry.

The complete kit does get pricey, but you can get just the gun for around $100 and powders are $9 and up a bottle. I've never needed a plug and I use a left over roll of electric fence wire to hang the parts. I've seen them on sale in the past and they email promotions and coupons if you don't mind their junk mail. I've seen a gun at Harbor Freight on sale for $60, don't have any experience with it but it looks the same.

I powder coat a whole bunch of stuff. I use to powder coat a whole bunch of atv parts for people from a forum i was on, i powdercoated some stuff on my mustang, some crawler parts, its easy, simple and fun.

EDIT: Here is a picture of my comp crawler the first day i had it, i spray painted the rims and powder coated the bead rings.
