Default MAPP gas and torch ??

Ok, i have a quick question before i nuts with my current mapp can for brazing.

i was looking to get this set up
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3687

but was wondering if you could run MAPP gass on both cans or do you have to run oxy on one and cetalyn(sp) or mapp on the other? The guy at the store had no clue and it seemed that no one there could figure it out.

SO my question is for the guys who have this torch and have had luck with it, is it possible to run 2 mapp cans and just use one at a time?

No. That torch has to have an oxygen cylinder to work right. Also, the oxygen regulator will not screw onto a mapp bottle.

I'm not sure you could.....if I'm not mistaken, the small Oxy bottles are left hand threads.

I could be wrong though.

I dunno about this setup, I have the bernzomatic oxy/mapp set and it goes through the oxygen like crazy, only lasts a very short while, about 4-5 oxy bottles per one mapp refill if not more, very expensive.
A good Mapp torch with a swirl tip is what I use now and it works fine for all sorts of brazing applications.

the bad thing is the oxy/acetalene torches use up there little bottles quickly.Just stick with mapp gas torch, one bottle lasted me two tube frames with a lot of joints. And besides the nozzle isnt that bad for heating up the metal

yea, thats what i have heard/read. Im still on my 1st bottle of mapp and i love how long it last, but its just getting a little difficult to heat up a little joint and not have the other one almost right next to it come apart Oh well, it might just have to work.

Most people here use a regular Bernzomatic MAPP torch. You can get these from Lowe's or Home Depot......I think I paid about $35 for mine. Sorry frisco, these do not give a very precise flame, but they do work well, and have auto-ignition. If you are looking to put together a chassis, bumpers, sliders or anything else, it's a good setup for a small investment.

chud, thats the set up i have now. Your right, it does work well, but i was just seeing if i could get a smaller flame for more percise welds. Oh well, i guess i just need to invest in more magnets..haha

The Bernzomatic Oxy/Mapp setup eats O2 instantly. Just getting the hang of using it sucks up a bottle or 2.

O2 bottle a reverse threaded.

Yah, ditto on those little bottles going quick. I bought the Bernz Mapp/Oxy kit then made a lousy fitting to hook up to a small Oxy tank. It could have been done cheaper but I didn't think I would find a Oxy tank so quick. That little torch is similar to the smith torch, probably the exact same thing just different box. I went with a Swiss Torch, there is a post on it in the tools section. You can braze with the simplist of gear, but it's not always pretty. I guess you need to decide how serious you want to get. Then decide what gear you want to buy.

If you buy that torch from HF, play around with it, meanwhile start looking for a small oxy tank and regulator on craigslist.
