I have silver brazed with a propane torch. It sounds to me like someone is not using flux????

I haven't tried with propane, but I was able to with MAPP only. But the heat direction is lousy. Best to use a small tip torch of some sort.

Yea well I would not recommend using propane...MAP is much better.

Get MAPP and it will do solder, silv solder and braze.
