Default 5150's Plastic Bender.......

I am going to try to make a plastic bender using a toaster as the basic platform.

Tools used to disassemble toaster:
-Good solid metal snipers.
-flat head screw driver.
-plyers
-star key (I used snips and muscle).

Pictures to come.

You are literally playing with fire.
A real bending strip is not that expensive, under $50. And they are designed to do this type of work.

You are going to have a shock and burn hazard on your hands. My advice is don't cobble it.

this is what I kept after taking apart toaster.

rod is above here on left side, which is
left of the orange thing, which that is what
turns on the heat.

So, I used got it to work and the four heating elements got hot, but the two center got really red hot. there was one small spark in the center one so I am not sure why or how safe this is as it is set up. does not seem to be able to control the heat even though the rod that you use to toast the bread does not control heat like i thought.

I am going to try again, but maybe just keeping the heating elements than figuring out a way to control heat, volt regulator or something. what is that something?

comments and suggestions welcome. thanks.

A toaster's light and dark settings come from a timer/heat sensor. The elements are just on.

No offense, but I see this ending badly......please go back and re-read killbucket's post. $50 can save you a lot of grief.

I feel like I'm watching a suicide in progress. You are playing with live AC, and it can kill you.Throw all that away, and finish your life as planned.

Get one of these, it's what I have:
http://www.briskheat.com/p-152-rh-pl...ip-heater.aspx
JUST $37!

EDIT: Unless you go to TAP, where you will pay $70. No joke.

I don't see a transformer so I would have to assume that the elements are AC. Yes multimeter set to AC and measure the elements. Its not going to be free to try to control it. I would cut the elements off AND cap the wires and just use the cooler ones. Or if you need three, cut out the bad one and wire up the other good one in series with the cool elements. 110 volts don't hurt for long

My only suggestion is to know exactly what you are doing when it comes to working with live voltages. Again, I mean no offense, but judging from your previous post, I'm not sure if you do, and taking advice here might not be your best route.

Killbucket's solution looks much safer, and it's only $37. I know part of the fun in projects like this is the do-it-yourself satisfaction, but some things aren't worth geting hurt for.

Yes.
Delrin is also a thermoplastic, so yes.
About 1/4' inch. Anything thicker needs industrial equipment.
