Default Dremel

Does anyone know, I was using my dremel to cut metal and it got too hot and stop working. Is it shot? Or is there something I can do? Now it won't turn on.

Thanks,

Try pulling out the brushes and see what they look like, take some light sand paper and clean them up and try it again. I had one dremel that quit making good contact with the brushes and I would always have to squeeze the thing where the brushes go in to get it to work. I ripped it all apart trying to find the problem, but never could get it to work properly.
Ended up buying a new one, problem solved.

Mine did that too, though I was doing something pretty stupid with it. Took it back to Lowes with an upset look on my face and a receipt and told them it quit working. They handed me a new one.

I should of kept my receipt, that would of been the thing to do. Next time. That's what I get for using it to cut 1/4 think steel.

X2, yeah, I'll just buy a new one... 60 bucks isn't a big deal.

You might as well try to fix it first. It's very easy to get the brushes out. Then sand them down flat if there is enough "meat" left.

Just unscrew the little cap and the brush pulls right out. My local ACE hardware sells replacement brushes too, I think they are less than $5.

I've had the same Dremel for so many years I've forgotten. More than 10. It's been used for everything under the sun. I used it to cut 1/4 steel for some skid plates I made when my grinder went missing.

I pulled out the brushes recently since I figured they MUST be getting close...nope, still lots of material left. Good thing too, since I can't find the correct brushes for this model. It's the pimp one with the digital screen and yellow buttons lol.

My dremel did this to I took it apart and one of the thick wires that go to the motor pulled out. They just push in like on an electrical outlet.

Yup mine did the same damn thing, put new brushes in it even though the old ones looked fine and still did the same thing. Tore it apart and re-tightened everything and works like new. This thing is only about 2 years old or so and I am pretty disappointed with it. Growing up I must of put my dads dremel through hell and his still works like a charm. Goes to show you the s**t they can install in a can and sell now. I don't care how mines times a store will take it back, that's a waste of time! *end rant*

I've had my old Sears "Rotary Tool" for about 20 years (Seriously)......and it still works. Of course, it does say "Made in USA" on it. Sadly, you have to go about 20 years back to find tools that say that.

Dave,,you may have got it hot enough to desolder the motor or switch wires too,,just take it apart and see what it looks like,,,i run a flex shaft on mine which isnt always in te best position which really strains the motor and mine never fails to work
