Default safety silv 56 what diameter?

Hey guys, I called every local welding supply shop around me and no one carries the safety silv 56. I found one shop that said they will order it for me on saturday, just call on monday, and now he is giving me a bit of hard time...:? He said he may or may not be able to get it...one of things he asked was what diameter I needed it in? So what diameter do I ask for? also is there maybe a store on line I can just order this stuff from? Or if someone is willing to pick some up for me I can pay pal you for it because this guy doesnt want to be bothered with me, because I dont have an "account with them".

Thanks
Mike

The dia. is 1/16 (1.6mm). There is two numbers on the container. Not sure what one is the part number. One number is 6531 and the other is 75310. This is for the one troy once container. Hope this helps. If you can't get it let me know. I am going to have to order some soon. I can order a couple extras for you if you want.

There is a welding shop that carries it in stock. I pass it on the way home from work. Wouldn't be a problem to pick some up and send it out your way. I forget what I paid for mine. $12 I believe for a container.

Funny you posted this, I'm heading to the local welding shop in a few.

Last time I was there they didn't have the 56, just the 45.

That is the place I bought it for the first time. I also got the white paste flux. They also have some decent welding tools at a decent price. I got some files and a few welding mockup magnets. The magnets come in handy when brazing.

BrandO, what do you braze on? Do you use fire bricks or what?

I use a piece of 1/4 inch steel plate that just sits on my work bench. Any metal salvage place should have something. Home depot even sells some plate. One of these days I am going to get a real welding table. Many times you want a nice flat surface you can clamp your work to.

Sweet, I'm supposed to go down to a local steel mill and sort through some scraps. The guy does projects for my work so I contacted him, he was really cool about coming down and taking stuff.

Wasn't sure if the plate would get hot like the tubing and braze together but i guess since its 1/4" thick it would take a lot longer to heat up.

I picked up 5 troy oz of Safty-Silv 45 for $62 today.

5oz containers is all they had.

$60 seemed steep since you can get 1oz for $12. You'd think they would cut you a break for buying it in a larger QTY.

TC where did you get it?

45 works fine as well......56 just flows a little smoother.
