Default Homemade drill bushings ?

Has anyone made a centering drill bushing for delrin out of around the house stuff? Im thinking an old deep socket, and maybe 5+ small washers inside.

Any other ideas?

If you have a drill press, you don't need one.

X2 on the jeepindoug Bushings. I have used them with both my drill press and hand drill and they just work awesome You can do it with out them but it is so much easier and faster with them. To me they are a small price to pay for something that makes life so much easier.

I know about the bushings that can be purchased, that's not the point. HOMEMADE with stuff around the house or super cheap at the hardware store.

So yesterday it was just a daydream at work. But last night in about 5 min this is what I came up with for free. Found my 5/16 deep well socket (the drill bit never touches the socket, so no damage will be done) just happen to have a few washers with small holes (1/8 drill bit fit snug) that fit inside the 5/16 socket and one 5/16 nut with 6/32 thread. Put the 4 washers in first then the nut with a little bit of tape just so it does not fall out, but you can get it out if you need to use the socket again (could glue). The washers and nut are your bit guide, and the 5/16 socket will hold the delrin. I used a 1/8 drill bit and going to tap to 8/32. The first time you drill though the drill bit will bore out the nut to 1/8th and give you the perfect guide. Here is what I used and the end result with a hand drill with the wife yelling at me to come in and help clean! (only used 4 washers and 1 nut) Looks true to me.

That's pretty slick!

When you first posted, I didn't think the washer idea would work.....figured they would catch on the drill bit, or be too loose to do much guiding, but using the nut as the guide is a great idea.

Thanks, Chud made this to make the new links for the FF-4 I got in the mail yesterday! That thing is bling I love the details you put into it, and strong! I broke my SWX in half

Also that link pictured was drilled with just 5 washers and no nut, about 10 washers will work fine, but the a nut or two works even better.

I know right!

I ask about making something from around the house materials, and I get 3 "you can buy jeepindougs" and 1 buy a drill press post. Im sure a drill press would be nice to have, and im sure dougs bushings work. But thats not the point

I made one at work out of a chunk of 2x3 by 1 inch thick steel scrap. Used a drill press with a bit the size the hole would be in my links to drill through the steel. Then I used a 5/16 bit to drill in a half an inch. It was free to me and works great.
