If your just starting, you need some extra to practice with. Saftey-Silv usually comes in Troy Ozs....so start with 1 T.O. and go from there.

Do you mean for all the tools and supplies you'll need? If you're starting from scratch, you'll probably spend a couple hundred on getting everything you need (bender, MAPP torch head, MAPP gas, silver solder, flux, dremel, pliers, rulers, magnets, files, gloves, glasses, etc. etc.). If you have the basic assortment of handyman and rc related tools (such as a dremel), you'll probably spend around $100 or so ($10 for cheap bender, $40 for MAPP torch head, $10 for gas, $20 for solder, $10 for flux, $10 for welding magnet).

Oh yeah, you also need to braze something together, so throw in the cost of brakeline !

Ok quick question. It goes along with the op question, do you need special goggles for brazing to protect your eyes?

You should have eye protection on anyways, so a tinted set of safety glasses will be fine. You're not getting things white hot when you braze.

The OP should ad a helmet to his shopping list though...

I did it for $100 to $150 dollars. Autolighting mapp gas torch head and gas for $60. Silver soder and flux for $75. $10 for solid rod from Home Depot.

Real Costs:

Bought the wrong torch head and gas - $30
Extra rod to pratice with - $30+
Bought the wrong soder (sp) - $20

I already had a vise, dremel, basic hand tools.

Pretty much everything else beyond Silver, Flux, Torch, and metal makes life easier and safer.

Just don't burn your house down.

if your half blind in one eye and can't really see out the other then glass are optional, it's a must, you won't like the out come of long team use of not waring. with that said I would agree with it being around the $100 mark. myself went the expensive way, full size cutting rig $200 mini cutting tips $150 aectylene tank $150 $35 to refill. oxygen tank $200 $70 to refill. If I use this set up I can go about a winter on the tanks depending if I'm using it just for the rc's. Comes in handy not having to do the refill every other week with smaller bottles

I just gathered my supplies to start my first project last week. The only answer to the question is that cost is not important. Anything to get the job done and the part on the truck is acceptable.
