Its actually "delrin", which is a brand name like lexan. The generic name is acetyl plastic. A lot of moderate sized cities have a plastic shop that stocks plastic and cuts it. Try sign shops and such. If you're luck they sell scraps by weight, cheaply.

I found 12x14x3/8 sheets of the stuff on eBay last year for cheap. They had holes in them that I work around when I make something but I got 10 sheets for $40 or $60 shipped.

There are better plastics for skids then Delrin IMO. I personally like cast acrylic which is why we use it for the ZNO-RC parts. Just as easy to machine and you can form it with heat. It is a little brittle but slides great over rocks. |

We have a hardware store, Hardware Sales, in Bellingham that buys scraps of Delrin, teflon and UHMW by the pallet box. They sell it by the pound. It's dirt cheap. They get round stock and plate, white or black Here's a wedge that I cut, drilled and chamfered for my battery mount on my servo tray. Last edited by SledRig; 12-03-2010 at 09:55 PM. |
