Default waterproofing differentials

Ok, I've got a dumb newby question I think.

I want to waterproof a toy grade diff that is plastic and has a bunch of vent holes I assume to allow the internal motor to not heat up...

If I rtv the holes, am I risking damaging anything? I have a bad problem with sand and water getting in and the plastic gears and sand don't mix well and I keep stripping out the pinion and first gear set.

Thanks for any advise...

Try it and see what happens! What's the worst that could happen? Burn up a motor and throw away the el cheapo toy r/c??? Live life on the edge!

sealing it might work as long as you dont run for too long a time i guess. that or is there a way to seal just the gears and let the motor vent somehow

surely if he packed it with grease it would just pack in the sand even harder??

and also, iv had gearboxes that iv packed with grease that then wouldnt turn coz the motor wasnt powerful enough!!

so im going to agree with billybob on this one. seal it up! try it, whats the worst that can happen?

I did put a bunch of dielectric in it, and it attracts the sand like a magnet. I hear you on the "toy" r/c thing...but I had to start somewhere and a 300 dollar "toy" isnt something I have access to at the moment. I'm just trying to make what I "do" have work a little better.

The guy at the r/c store here basically gave me that speech so I guess I'll spend my money elswhere when I do get a better one.

I cant really seal it without affecting the motor because of the way its designed, but I do agree that if I break it...oh well...

thanks for the advise yall
