Default Custom Ground carbide inserts

Well, i'm working on getting some chromoly hd worms machines.

And well i was going to hand grind carbide inserts down into the size i need, however i got to thinking that there's companies that do this all the time.

Anyone know a good, affordable place here in the states to get a few inserts custom ground? It's real simple, 40* with a .022 flat point.

"affordable" is in the eye of the beholder...LOL We used to have kennemetal custom grind inserts for our custom made bars so I know they offer the service.I would call the manufacturer of the toolholder you have and ask them first.

i always considered thin bit to be an insert tool, harvey and micro make solid tools, but either way there is a dozen ways to get this done..

You're right.I've used quite a few of their solid carbide boring bars(http://www.kaisertool.com/products/b...mi_boring.html) and wasn't thinking of all their insert stuff I've used too.

Talk to some machinists in your area. There are grinding shops all over that should be able to help you out. I would think the clamp style holders would be optimal rather than the screw through holders since there wouldnt be a need for a hole or anything.
