Default Jewelry Making Tools

My girlfriend makes jewelry and just started a class on metalsmithing. She gets a lot of catalogs for tools, and they are pretty cool to look through. I know a lot of people here make their own parts, and fabricate their own bodies, fenders etc., and a lot of these jewelry tools are perfect.

My favorite catalog is the big "Tools & Equipment" book from riogrande.com.

I'm a Manufacturing Jeweller and Silver Smith by trade ( last 30 years ), had my own home workshop (Bench), pretty much from the start.
So I've got quite a collection of jewellers tools (plus a few made specially for jobs), pendant drill, rolling mill.

All my crawler work is done there.

It's so funny that you posted this because my Girlfriend just got a shipment, and I was thinking of reviving this thread.

I'm not sure if any of you have seen this, but I think it's very cool especially for small places. It uses a flex shaft rotary tool, and turns it into a small drill press. I've tried the dremel work-station but a dremel does not have the torque needed to drill. These Fordham flex shafts do which is why I like this thing.

I needed something to use as a size reference, so that's why the beer can is there

Nope haven't seen this ... pic's aren't showing.
My pendant drill/ hanging drill, is an Italian Faro. Max rpm is 22,000.

I'm also a Badge maker, was considering making scale badges, till I saw someone else on here was already doing it.

he also gave me a nice meco firecrest torch with a few different sized tips... it works excellent for silver soldering

I have the Smith little torch but started out useing the setup from Home Depot with the throw away bottles. With the disposable bottles I was going thru oxygen rite and left and there around $10 each. With the smith set up I've only had to have my bottle of oxygen filled twice in the last year and it's $18 to swap it out for a filled bottle at my local welding supply house. The acteylene bottle doesnt last as long (smaller bottle than oxygen) and I've had it filled/swapped out 5 times in the last year at a price of about $15 each time. If I had to do over again I would of went with the Smith torch first and not wasted so much money on the disposable bottles. More control of your flame, less wasted gas and way cheeper to get your bottles swapped out than buying the throw aways from Home Depot.
A little more $ up front buying your bottles or putting down a deposit on them at your local welding supply house and buying the torch itself but it all pays for itself in no time.

Yes, this is what I've got,
Smith Little Torch With Regulators Jewelry 23-1003 "MC" Acetylene Tank 014495019225 | eBay

Didn't pay that much tho, yikes

and this caddy to carry it all around in,
Smith Little Torch Cylinder Caddy Acetylene Mc 13493 014495243507 | eBay

With the deposit on the bottles and picking up an oz of Harris 45 and flux at the same time I had about $300 total in everything when I started.
That was a little over a year ago so prices may of went up some.
$200 for hoses with guages/regulators sounds about rite. That caddy was around $75 back then which is kinda expensive but makes it nice to keep everything together and the tip's seem to last a really long time. Only on my second tip now and I use my torch about every day.

Default B/Day Christmas suggestion???

For your girlfriend .... form your own settings and all sorts of other things.

For you ... make all your own light buckets:

Warburtons

Just need the doming punches.

Find your own US supplier ... the way exchange rate is, this might be an option.
