Default Mig welding 4130 Alloy Steel

Anyone have any experience with this? I have only used MIG on Low Carbon Steel, but I am having a heck of a time finding rectangular carbon steel tubing. I need something like 3/8" X 3/8" though I would prefer 1/4" X 3/8". The smallest McMaster Carr carries in carbon steel is 1/2' X 1/2" which is way too big for hilux sized slides. They do have the 3/8" X 3/8" in 4130 though.

Ive had good luck with mig on 4130...I weld 16 and 18g with low power and wire feed...

I want to make frame rails from 18g 4130 and will probably wind up making two profiles then top and bottom edges from strips...grind it down after.

If its for rock sliders u might use key stock,Its solid but you can get it in a bunch of sizes 1/8 ,1/4 so on,I dont find it any harder to weld it than low carbon jus have to set up the welder do some practice welds first

Mig welding 4130 is fine for toy truck parts. You don't really need to do anything differently than welding low carbon steel. You might want to think about another welding process if you are building a race car chassis or a roll bar out of 4130 for a 1:1 rig though.

not any harder to weld ,especially for little stuff. Might need a lil more heat but should basically go just the same. maybe a lil more cleaning unless you clean really good before you weld all the time. and you wont find low carbon any smaller than that unless you get rod and thats heavy compared to tube too heavy for a crawler. and i mig all my roll bars in the 1:1s only time ill tig is when i cant get to the stuff with the mig
