| Driveline Misfit! Need Ideas/Help!!
I'm upgrading driveshafts on a crawler of mine and the shaft I have is the wrong size, and I have to make it work! The axle drive output it 5mm and my new drive shafts are at 4mm. Some how I need to make them the same size so the yolk piece will slip over. I'm afraid to drill out the yolk too much. So I think I'll need to compromise by both shaving down the ankle output and drilling out the input. What do you think I should do? Any advice will help. |

I would say if your capable of it, drill the yoke side to 5MM. All you would need is a 5MM (#9 drill is your closest to 5MM) and your set.

| The thing Is that would leave me with a "sidewall" thickness for the yoke of just over 1mm (~1.3mm.) Is that sufficient enough for a grub screw thread to hold in?

Also when drilling out the yoke, should I work my way up through the bits and take a little material each time or go directly to the right sized bit.

Got pics of what your dealing with hear? From the sounds of it, your yoke is not meant to work with your output shaft. I personally don't feel that 1.3mm is enough thickness for a 3mm diameter grub screw. Maybe it you drill and tap all the way through and run two setscrews... Definately work your way up in size. Taking a lot of meat out at once ussually results in an oblong,or oversized, hole. I would try to avoid reducing the diameter of your output shaft. Doing so would likely make it your weak point, depending on your axles. Worst case, you can find Axial or Traxxas steel output yokes for fairly cheap to go with the super cheap and fairly rugid Traxxas truck shafts. |

| . The yoke thickness. The drive shafts were meant for a Losi MRC. I'm putting them on a 1/16 Maxstone (exceed). Basicly the same rc. |

| Re: Driveline Misfit! Need Ideas/Help!! I have to agree with Johnny. Why do you have to make this particular shaft work? Do you have the original shaft for that pinion? Is is possible to use that shaft instead and use a bushing on the other end that attaches to the transmission? Or maybe a hybrid of the two ends with some sort of adapter in the middle?
