| Tig/Mig Welding Stainless Nuts?
So I've started on a cool expedition looking roof rack made out of 3/16 stainless rod for my Tacoma, and i need to attach it to the roof obviously. But I'm having the time of my life trying to weld a small 3mm stainless nut into the corners of it. I have a Tig welder and a Mig so most people would say go with the Tig, but when i try to weld on the nut even at 10 amps it just cooks the nut and makes it unusable. I tried Mig welding the nut on today but that was pretty hard since its so small. So what do you guys do for welding nuts on? I'm out of patience and ideas. |

Something you can do is thread a bolt threw the nut and try welding it on it may protect it from damage Sent from my LG-E739 using Tapatalk 2 |

I would take some small pieces of 3/16 rod and cut them down to posts. If you have access to a lathe, drill and tap for 3mm and weld the small posts to the bottom of the rack. I made one for my Wraith and thats what I did. Mine is made from aluminum, the roof is aluminum and the vertical posts are threaded from the bottom and can be detached at any time. |
