I've used about half a bottle of MAPP on a exo cage. I dont have a problem with it heating slowly or not enough.

I use brake line. Mostly because its light and strong at the same time, Also I used a little butane torch to get it hot and some steel solder

A brazing flux will help to a certain degree, but I have found that it isn't really needed. Nice, clean joints without flux will meld just fine.
